lines project

our first workshop of the 4 week round about was fine art workshop our first day was working with black materials and 12 squares, we could do any mark making, patterns and adding other materials with different tones of black we then had to cut the squares up and then cut up each square into another 4 sections . I think mine came out quite well maybe could have been more black but I used a variety of media and techniques. we then had to get a A1 sheet of paper and measure out 24 squares after we then could mix and match the pieces as long as the where in alternate squares on the A1 sheet like a chess boards. The other 12 squares are parts of drawings which I've taken from the wall we did write at the begging of the course. example of part of the wall below.
we then made view finders and started to do charcoal sketches of the selected sections once we had done 12 of them we cut them out and stuck them in the 12 squares that where left. we then had to try make it look like one whole drawing by working over the top and extending drawings lines and patterns. I think mind came out quite well but it would look better if it was darker and probably would have been easier to make it look like one whole drawing.


after I then went into the photography our first day was in the studio learning how to set up all the photography equipment and also learning more about the cameras. we got into pairs of 4 and we took turns to work with lighting and shadow placement and angle of the camera and portrait and landscape photos. The day after we went into the computer mac suite to have a go with Photoshop using the photos that we had taken the day before I had a play around with my portraits by taking clippings from the photos. but for my third one I wanted it to link more to my lines theme I took clippings of each of the people hair in the photo and mine and made it into a more abstract look with the different shades of hair and also enlarged and rotated them. Here are my three final pieces.

Musical theatre


For my final major project I have chosen to do musical theatre and stage works I have chosen to do this project because it's a huge passion and dream of mine and I have a lot of knowledge about musicals and the stage because I have been in some myself, and also want to see what I art I can make to express my interest. First through the febuary half term I collected my primary and secondary research and started my sketch book. Her are my pages I have done so far.

My first page was my ideas so I created a mind map with a musical theatre twist in it. But I don't know what I'm going to do that far ahead so I keep adding to it. I then started with some of my primary research of when I did my performance of the wizard of Oz at the lamp room theatre Barnsley in 2012. So I created of mood board of the suvourneers I had including the cast list, photos, the ticket and poster. I then moved on to the two main uniforms I had my munchkin and Winkie costumes and did a sample of each outfit and drawings. After that I started my first look at a particular performance of that show so I looked at the 2011 Andrew Lloyd Webber the wizard of Oz at the London palladium and I looked at the set design by rob Jones  who also created that costumes and I also looked at the makeup here is the link to the tutorials where I got the makeup drawing from of the scarecrow, Glenda the good witch and the wicked witch of the west.  
I also then did a college with the lyrics from the film/show. 

I then decided to look at stage crafts and found a book on it but decided it should go before the wizard of Oz section so I ripped out son pages from the back of my sketchbook and tied them to the front and used different techniques including tea bagging the paper and ripping the edges and also adding masking tape. They where for my stage drawing pages. I then looked at pattern design I created my own cut-out and then painted over it to complete a recurring pattern I also tried it on material just to make the page more interesting.  After that I picked up some primary research at home of musical theatre videos, DVDs, CDs, and records and set up a still life. here is a picture of the still life
 
 
 I drew them from observation in pencil on an A2 sheet which I had before dripped watercolour on to. I also prepared another sheet to do an outline drawing of the observation and dripped ink on that one. on both pages I used just the three primary colours so that when it ran down the paper it would make some of the secondary and tursery colours.
 
it was then the week to start my mood boards so for my first mood board on musical theatre I have chosen to do costume and makeup.


  
 I have done the hairspray wig that Tracy wears in acrylic and coloured pencil for the bow, I took this from one of the hairspray programmes from a show my friend had seen and had given me to borrow. in the bottom left corner I have taken the wicked with of the west from wicked/wizard of oz. I have done this in watercolour pencil and acrylic. I think the watercolour pencil worked really well for the shading and contour of the face. I have taken the face makeup from the drawing in my sketchbook which was originally from the wizard of Oz 2011 makeup tutorial. The links above. next I added the hat and hair from a photo on the internet of the wicked witch in wizard of Oz film because the tutorial on YouTube didn't show her wig and hat. in the middle is a coloured pencil drawing of one of the masks from lion king the musical. I have taken this also from a programme that a friend gave me. I think the shading of the colours blended really well plus the colours are really vibrant which is what the musical go for, lots of colour and pattern. in the top left corner I have taken the pink ladies font from the back of the girls jacket on grease live which was on the telly earlier this year and a great remake of the film I loved it. I recreated it in watercolour pencil. at the bottom in the middle I have taken the section of clothing Jean Val Jean wears when he is a slave at the begging of the musical/film les miserable. I have done this in acrylic. in the bottom right corner I have painted the original shoes that Judy garland wore in the wizard of Oz (1939). in acrylic. I got the photo from the American history museum section at the Smithsonian in Washington D.C, United states. finally in the middle on the right I have taken the hat and umbrella from Mary popping's and painted them in acrylic. I drew them from the photos on the internet of the film.
 
After my first drawn mood board I then decided to make two mood boards on photos of musicals (film and stage) the selection on the mood board is a selection of the musicals im hoping to do about in my sketchbook. I have collected a variety of different musical films photos from programs photocopies from books and photos from the internet, these include Calamity Jane, Evita, Mary popping's, Wizard of Oz, Mama Mia, guys and dolls and Oliver. I think this board is interesting especially for me because its some of my favourite films are on here but also interesting for others because they may have forgot about these film or forgot they where or have been made into musicals. This was my finished musical film mood board. 
 
I think the piece went well because the picture are clear and I tried to pick photo's which are the most memorable parts from the films. 

at the same time I was also collecting photos from the internet and programmes of photo shots of stage musicals across the world and country on famous shows these include lion king, my fair lady, Blood Brothers, cats. but I have made it so there is one of each show on each board of the film and musical except blood brothers and cats which is only a musical and a book. This board makes me happy because I love going to see musicals and I  have seen a Blood Brothers twice, Wicked and Les miserable. And if it didn't cost as much I would go see many more. This board is also another way to sum up my subjects in my sketchbook. this was my final mood board.

I think this sheet went well because the photos where clear and like the other I tried to find photos that are most memorable parts of the play or that you can recognise even if you have seen them. However I had a few gap that where too big to leave but not big enough to add photos that would be big enough to see from far away. So some I rotated so they would fit better and on the bits that where left I painted black. 

Afterwards inbetween classes I had an interview at Sheffield Hallam uni so while I was there I took photos As part of my observational drawing/ mood board I am looking at two of my favourite theatres, it was suppose to have been either loads of small drawings of theatres or just one A2 drawing of the lamproom theatre but instead I decided to join them together by splitting the drawing in two of the lamproom and the Lyceum Sheffield. I have chosen these because the lamproom is important to me because I have seen and been in shows there. And it's in my home town so I have seen it change through the years. I have chosen the Lyceum because I love the exterior and was really determined to draw it and I have also seen my favourite show blood brothers there. The Lyceum was built by the architect w.g.r sprague and the Lyceum Sheffield is the only theatre built outside London by him. The lamproom was converted from a Methodist chapel this was my final sheet. 

Afterwards for my next mood board I thought I'd put together a selection of titles of shows and looking at typography through scrafitto before adding the black paint. I did different colours of oil pastel underneath hoping that when I added the  black paint I would be able to work out where the writing would go I think it would go. I think it worked really well because the writing worked well and once I had found the right tool which peeled it of the best, the writing looked really well and neat plus the oil pastel colours were bright and stands out really well. I also think it's a great way to sum up my project but also experimenting. If I was to do it again I would try and make the text on the hairspray the same size. Here was my final piece. 

This week I have joined a workshop on a Wednesday to support my final major project it's a design of a head piece for the Horizon community college Lion King show In June I choose to do Scar because when I looked at examples from the London show so I have took the head piece and then added the tribal pattern from the clothing to the main part of the face. While making this I have to think about how it's going to fit on the head and also make sure none of it covers the face. I have use coloured pencil and I think it was a great idea because the colours and really bright which is what this show contains a lot of bright colour and pattern plus the colours blended really well. This was my final sheet. 
  After doing my first design of the head piece for Horizons Lion King I realised that it wouldn't work so I have taken the face shape from the Lion King head piece drawing I have done on my mood board. The one on the right will now work better because it wouldn't cover the face as much but I have kept the tribal pattern and tried to keep it so it looks like scar I have also added the hair style/mane  that scar has on the cartoon film. Just to try something different. I think it worked well but I used different coloured pencils and they wernt as vibrant so I need to use the same ones I had for my first design.
 Finally on the left I got the coloured pencils back I had before so it had the vibrant look to it which is more of an advantage for the audience I also brought. Back the standard pine hair just to compare it with the one next to it but the rest of it I traced from my final design because I like the design and tribal pattern. This was my final sheet. 
For one of my artist research I have chosen to look at Eugene Lee who is the set designer and costumer for Wicked the musical. I like the background to this sheet because of the different materials give it more texture and interest. I have taken one of the main features that represents the wicked musical, the clock. I have done the study in acrylic I think the blending of the blues works really well because it gives it that dark look which the whole set design tends to give off. but the roman numerals and the hand still showup in the black acrylic. I also think the scale is a good size. I didn't know how to draw the other picture so I made little cardboard replicas of the clock work gears and painted them to make them look rusty. they also helped fill in negative space. if I was to do it again I would change photos and maybe make the gears and the pieces of materials stronger or the paper stronger because they arnt sticking properly. finally overall like the colour scheme and I think my artist research is more diverse. After I left it when I thought it had finished the green materials started to fall of even more and the cogs so I used more double sided. I had also been told there was negative space and the  top of the clock should be finished off but I couldn't do that because it wasn't on the photo. so I made another piece of bottle green fabric using calico and dark green paint and stuck that there. for the rest of the white space I used sequins but they started falling off so I used glittery mail polish that I had. this was my final sheet. 
for my second artist research sheet I have looked at David Hockney, an English painter, print maker, photographer and stage designer, on this sheet I have done two of Hockneys set designs one a street scene from The Rakes progress, 1975. And the other Trial  by water from Magic flute, performed at Glyndebourne festival opera, 1978. For the waterfall painting I used gouache I think it was a great media to use because it looks quite abstract but looks realistic at the same time. The only thing I would change is the colours of the purples at the top for the clouds because  there not the right shade. For the house I used coloured pencil I tried to use ink like I did on my cardboard model but it looked messy because the ink would stop every second. I think the coloured pencil worked well because the colour was spot on and looked quite minimal.  Afterwords I had quite a lot of negative space so next time I need to work on the scale, however for this time I used blocks of water colour pencils to match the colours from my critical studies but still after that it looked bare so I had my nail polish out so I added some mark making with that. This was my final sheet. 
From looking at the model of David Hockneys house set design I decided to make a cardboard model. I used ink but I tried a cocktail stick but it wasn't spreading the ink well and the lines where not straight, so then I tried a paint brush but the lines where too thick so then I used an embossing tool but it didn't soak up the ink so I was having to dip it in the ink every two seconds so I managed to find a smaller paint brush. I then found a red marker pen to do the doors and pencil for the bricks. For the tree I used paper and double sided foam pads to lift it up and then used black ink for the bark and green ink for the leaves. However if I was to do it again I would use white card because the paper curls up. This was my cardboard model. 

My next artist research is of Richard Hudson the set designer of Lion King the musical I have done both studies in acrylic. I think the colours look great and blended well. For the tribal patterns around the tree I did in charcoal. This sheet was the sheet that I got finished the quickest so it wasn't time consuming . For the background I used masking tape and newspaper and then added the patterns from around the tree to cover up negative space I used black acrylic for them. If I was to do this again I would expand the bottom painting to the bottom of the page but u really like this artist page so I wouldn't change much. This is my final sheet. 
This artist research sheet is of rob Howell set design from Matilda the musical the set design for me is amazing because it looks like the book is coming apart and the story is going on inside I think it's an amazing idea and looks amazing too. I wish I could have represented it with little squares of wood for the study in the bottom left but I didn't have any so I decided to cut up some sponge into squares and then sponge different coloured squares on in acrylic I think it looks good in a way because you know what's it is. But it does look quite childish and for me it didn't come out how I wanted so next time I would find pieces of wood. For the other I used acrylic and I think it worked really well like the clock on the wicked one, the white gives it that lighting effect and makes it more 3D. For the back ground I used squares of tissue paper to represent the set design and then I used thread and alphabet beads to represent the school theme. Overall I think it's bright and colourful and quite childish which goes with the musical.  This was my final sheet. 
For this sheet I had already done my 3 mask designs but to expand them further I added some of the patterns from my patchwork just in case I had enough time to make more then one mask for my final piece. For the top one I used tracing paper to trace my outline of the mask from my second design sheet and then added the patterns from my pattern mood boards which I will talk about later. Then I did same for the bottom one. I like them because I think I did right putting the pattern across the fore head because  it looks like a tribal band. For the background I have used yellow and red ink and used a paintbrush to splash the ink on I used red and yellow because it sticks with the African colour theme or lion king and also if the red and yellow  mixed it would turn orange too. Which it did a little bit. Plus I thought it was a quick way to add colour to negative space. If I was to do it again I don't think the mask traced right because it looks really crushed width ways. So maybe next time draw it from hand and also make sure the black around the eye looks like it does on the others because in this one it looks like eyes shadow not scars marking. This was my final sheet 
When it came to this moodboard of African pattern I had side tracked and had come back on my self because once  I had worked out that my mask was going to be one of my final piece I decided I needed a second piece for my exhibition wall so I came up with the idea of doing different African patterns on fabric and seeing them together. So before all that I collected a selection of images off the internet that may be the patterns for my patchwork. I like some of these patterns because of how they look and some because of the colours but on this A3 I think the collage looks really effective. Some of the picture sizes left tiny bits of white showing so I cut up some of the photos so they would cover the small bits and I don't think you can tell. If I was to do it again I wouldn't change anything because the pictures are clear, colourful and match what I wanted. This was my mood board. 
For this mood board/ experimentation I have taken my favourite patterns from my photo collage of African patterns I picked the most simple ones because I had to think about how much detail would work if I was to expose screens for screen printing, but also if I was just to paint them. I painted this collage in acrylic I think it worked well because the colours came out like the photos and are still bright and colourful like I wanted. It was also a good way of working out my colour theory for the fabric and how the patchwork will look all together, so most of the patterns I think will be black prints with a colour for the background. If I was to do it again I would maybe look at an artist who does African patterns and not just pictures of the Internet. I would also use different media to see if I can get the colours even more vibrant. 
I have taken these patterns from my design sheet of African patterns. I have picked my favourites and then got some swatches of fabric from textiles and cut them all to 10.5cm by 9cm squares I've put the patterns sort of into pairs even though they are all unique so that when I come to using textiles techniques. 
 
For the top right pattern I have use black acrylic with white pencil over the top, I think it looks great because the white stands out. When I come to doing it I will use black ink with white pencil after.  For the top middle sample I have used orange/brown acrylic with black water colour pencil over the top. When I do this I'm going to use binder with black pencil or black water colour pencil. For the top left pattern I have used red/orange and yellow acrylic with black acrylic over the top. When it comes to being in the workshop I will use red and yellow ink and then and the mix that to make the orange and then add black acrylic ore pencil. For the second row right sample I have coloured pencil but had to do a few layers so it was vibrant. When I come to experimenting I'm going to use inks for the different colours. For the middle second swatch I have used red water coloured pencil and left the fabric plain where the white is. When I do my textile one I'm going to use batik and where the wax isn't use red brusho inks. For this sample on the second row left I have used black acrylic on the black stripes and left the other plain when I come to experimentation I will use black puff binder. For the swatch on the right third row I have used the red orange and yellow acrylic and then drew triangles and painted the outside of the triangles black but I didn't leave the black to dry enough so the black was mixing with the colour so I painted the coloured triangles on top next time I will make sure the paint  underneath is fully dry. I will use in the workshop red, orange and yellow ink and black paint over the top. For the pattern in the middle on third row I have used yellow acrylic with black pencil over the top, when it comes to doing my textiles version I will use yellow binder with black pencil over it. I think it looks great because the yellow is really bright and African colours are suppose to be vibrant. For this sample on the left 3rd row I have used coloured pencil I think this one looks great because the colour scheme is different so it stands out when I come to doing samples and final piece I will use fabric inks. For the bottom right pattern I have used red water colour pencil and black paint when it comes to samples I will use red ink with my screen print over the top. For the bottom middle swatch I have used black coloured pencil when it comes to doing it in textiles I will use black puff binder. For the last bottom left giraffe style swatch I have used brown acrylic and kept the cloth clear where the paint isn't. When it comes to final piece I will use batik where the lines are and use brusho inks. This was my final sheet. 
For my next sheet I have mounted 4 of my 12 paper designs in acrylic ready to put onto tracing paper so then they can be exposed onto a screen. The rest are in my sketchbook because I didn't want to mount then all. I think these will look great for screens because there bold clear and I enlarged them so there isn't too much detail but enough at the same time. However once I had painted them I had to add another layer because when I held it up to the light it still showed through. Also some of the lines wernt very neat so I tried to beaten them off. But otherwise I think they will look great because they still look African even though there quite minimal. This was my final sheet. 
After doing the paper versions I then photocopied them onto tracing paper o have again mounted 4 of 12 the rest one in my sketch book. They came out quite well but some of the printing ink. Smudged onto the tracing paper and if I exposed that it would pick it up so I had to cut bits of the tracing paper out to get rid of the unwanted ink. Also when I held it up to the light like the others it was see through so I got a permanent marker and tried to cover it up but the marker was removing  more of the print so I get black acrylic and painted the patterns it was very time consuming but the screens came out really well. This was my final sheet.

Evaluation

The primary research I undertook for my unit 12 'live brief' is when doing my sketch book for the shawlands project I did a verity of drawings and photos taken from either books that I had when I was younger or one I took out of the library. I had also been round the display boards in the college to take pictures of the way the boards change for the certain topics. Level 2 which is child care was the most useful for me because it had numbers words and ideas from childrens book. I also used primary research for my gallery research I went around the cooper gallery and experience Barnsley and too photos of the displays an my exhibition. I also used secondary research in my sketchbook when I had taken books from  the Internet and also books I printed off for my mood boards and also for my sketch book and customer board. I developed my primary research on books for my display boards when I choose the ks1 board to be Elmer which I took from a book I bought. So I took forward Elmer and also the coloured squares which make Elmer up. From the secondary research I found on books for example my cat in the hat and the gruffalo I took the pictures I found online to make up one design for my ks1 board and also one for ks2 board. I also developed my research when I took Winnie the Pooh from one of my own books and then used the drawings as one of my artist sheet and then turned that into one of my  display board designs for ks2. And finally I took my research forward when I used the photos from the Internet of the key points in my 4 seasons design and used them to make up the design on the wall.
When we had our one day project of creating a 30cm x 30cm knitted price we had to take certain elements into our design firstly the specific size that they wanted and also the colour they wanted no matter what material we knitted/ weaved etc with the colour had to be black so I had to make sure that them elements where in my final product to suit the customers requirements. When doing my shawlands project the client did influence what work and ideas I developed because the where certain requirements like the age range, that it had to promote books, the measurements, making sure the paint is suitable for radiators and that the blue on the library wall is gone. So when doing my designs and idea I had to make sure I took on all these. But throughout the process i wasn't asked to change anything. At the cooper gallery we did a day of designing a app for the gallery and  to give us an idea on how we couldn't design it I got to experiment because we was given and outline of a phone on a sheet and then given loads of printed icons and pictures ect so we got do see that in a visionary way which for me makes me understand better. When I came to designing my library wall I had a problem because I didn't know how much I needed to work out for the costing sheet how many or what size of tub of paint we would need so we don't have enough or buy too much. So to get a ruff idea we had to work out the area of the wall which then gave us the size of the wall and then I could work estimate how much paint I would need and that solved my problem and also saved money. If there would have been no client constraints from shawlands I would have kept the book idea the same because I loved being able to do about children's books because it interests me from when I was younger. I don't think I would change anything because the colours where great because they are bright and the plain blue wall needed covering up. 
When deciding my designs for the display boards I was struggling at first but then I looked backed in my sketch book at the books I had done for primary and secondary research and then researched what age range they where for and then started using them and the drawings I had to make a design for ks1 and 2. When it and to the library wall I'd already had and idea before u had drawn anything or done my sketchbook. So that's why I created the seasonal mood board so I could get the pictures that represent the key points of each time of year and then I could vision how they would look and the layout on the wall.
At the cooper the customer did influence my design because firstly our group where thinking that the adults will want to look at the work but what about if they have children so we came up with the idea to add games and activities into it so the children influenced that. Also the place we was doing this was the cooper so streight away its art related to I made sure then when we designed the app that it had pictures of artists work in it.
the things I believe to have gone well throughout the working with an audience project was my sketchbook. I managed to set out my pages by splitting it into two then splitting each section into primary and then secondary research and then my designs, ideas and colour schemes. so I think it came out really well with lots of media and materials I used. however I think I need to work on my measuring skills and maths because when it came to the costing sheets I didn't know how to work out the area of the wall and I didn't understand the litres of paint that I needed to cover the part of the wall. i think i managed my time well further on in the project because i was using my time management sheets effectively, however at the begging of the project the it was the Christmas holidays so had distractions and busy days which stopped me from doing work and put me behind so next time i need to make sure that i manage my time over the holidays as well as when im at college.
i think i have used my blog well because i added a program that i watched over the holidays based on books so it was a different way of finding out information about books and also looks great on my blog and makes it more interesting.
when it came to presentation time i prepared for it by making sure all my sheets where together so i wasn't lost and trying to find certain sheets while i was stood up talking. i also passed my sketch book around while presenting so the audience had a better insight to my research and how id got to where i was. i think my presentation could have gone better because i missed a few important parts because i was nervous and one of my pages had got stuck to the other page so i had to rip it off while i was stood up. there was also a few questions asked which i couldn't answer. my strength in the project i believe is my ideas and how they where suitable for my audience and also my sketch book but if i was to do it again i would tru a new idea for the library wall and also work better on my annotation and know how to flow my work from one to another when presenting it.

Working with an audience project


For unit 12 we are working with others from outside of college and it is shawlands primary school. Which is next to my old primary school. Their are three areas in the school that need designing, a sensory room which is for children with autistic spectrum and at the moment looks like this.
So they want us to come up with a design for the room. 

Another part is the library wall which has to encorage the love of reading we can do what we want in reason as long as the blue wall has gone. This is the library wall at the moment. 
Another area in the library are display 
boards there are two one for ks1 (5-7 years) and then one for ks2 (7-11 years) these have to be based on one book each for the appropriate age this is what they look like at the moment. 

our first thing to produce was a sketch book full of research i split it into two for my two choosen areas. throughout my sketch is primary book research, secondary book research, ideas and design, items i need, colour charts and mindmaps for both areas here are some of my pages. 




I've decided for my two choices to create a design for the display boards and the liabary wall. After all out designs are done only 3 are chosen and that is decided by the heads of shawlands. So to start off my research the first thing I did was create a mood board of books 5-11 the display boards, it was great to do because I know quite a lot of the books from when I was younger it made me more interested because it was bringing back memories it was also a great way by doing a mood board to get all the information I needed to start off with on an A2 sheet. This was the sheet when completed. I've also put some illustrations in that may help me when I come to doing artist research and my sketch book. 
My second mood board was my idea for the library wall which is to do the four season and then link books that are based on the four seasons so I split the A2 sheet in four so I then added pictures to go with the seasons and then I did a section of books I found for each season. It was interesting to do because I didn't realise how many popular books there was that are actually linked to seasons so I'm quite proud of my idea. The problem I'm having because I am used to girl books and because I have no male inspiration around me I don't really know what boys are into so I'm finding it hard looking for books that are for boys. So to help me out I've been asking my friends who have brothers or children what there mainly boys and girls like to read. This was my final sheet. 
To practice design for a coustomer we had to make up a coustomer as a child we could base it on our selves when we where younger or just make up a child. We had to do a mood board of photos that represent things and interests in the child's life I kinda based mine on me when i was little so it was a girl

After my mood boards I moved onto artist research my first one was based on  rainbow magic fairies which I had taken from my primary research in my sketch book because they are books that I had when I was younger. The two on each side are the front pages and in the middle is an illustration from inside the book of The two main characters Rachael and Zoe. I have used watercolour for the front pages and I think it has worked well for the shading on the wings and on the clothing. For the illustration in the middle I used drawing ink and I think it came out well because it was an out line drawing. The drawings make me feel happy because they bring back memories from my childhood and it was great to be able to bring it into my work. I don't think I'll be taking it forward to my design but it's part of my primary research in my sketch book. On the Louise the lily fairy I didn't scale it properly so I zoomed in and painted the main part. If I was to do it again I would try the painting on different materials like calico eat to make it more interesting.


For my second artist research sheet I choose to do Winnie the Pooh from another one of my books from when I was younger. I think this is a great idea for my display board for 5-7 years because Winnie the Pooh is a widely famous book. For all three of the pictures I have used watercolour with drawing ink for the sketches. I was happy with the watercolour because I wet the page first and then added the watercolour which made it blend much better and easier. I was really influenced to draw the original because I wanted to try out the old sketchy versions instead of the graphic and computerised type now. I got this sheet done quite quick because I managed to scale it out really well, nothing looked out of proportion. For the back ground I took the main colours from each picture so there is no negative space. If I was to do it again I would either try different media for the background or make the pictures bigger.

after I had done my artist research I have then taken my research from my sketchbook to do my idea of the 4 seasons i have added as much colour as possible to brighten up the room and to catch the childrens attention. i have chosen to pick out the main key points of each season for example bonfire night, halloween etc. i like how i have managed to keep the consistency of the tree but able to show how it changed throughout the year. i have also designed it so it has the slogan books for all seasons across the top. the design is in budget of the money we have and i have made the spring and winter background the same shade of blue to save money and paint. if i was to do it again i would try and make it more realistic because i feel it might be abit childish for the ks2 children. i will also not put the paint on top of paint because it doesn't standout as well and changes some of the the colours. this is my final sheet and then another layout of the design so the customer has a better choice or if one will work better. the cost for both is 75 pound and 20 pence.
For my display boards I did 4 designs 2 for ks1 which I choose Elmer and the gruffalo and then ks2 which is Winnie the Pooh and the cat in the hat. For each one I have added and learning sections like numbers, colours, times tables, punctuation and words. I like them because there bright and interesting to look at and will not cost too much because apart from the printing cost the rest will be recycled materials that I have myself. Here was my final piece. 




On Boxing Day i watched Walliams to reveal Britain's Favourite Children's Book on Boxing Day. Where David Walliams counted down the favourite children's books it was interesting to see what book would be at the top to see if they linked with any that I had used in my work the top 5 where. Journey to the river sea, The Lion,The Witch and the wardrobe, The cat in the hat, Where the wild things are, and number 1 was A bear called Paddington. They also spoke to some of the authors including Michael Morpurgo, Dame Jacqueline Wilson, Micheal Bond, Julia Donaldson and Sir Quentin Blake. www.channel4.com › info › press › news

Fine art experiments

Our first experiment was about observational drawing and cross hatching, we had 3 hrs to finish a crosshatched picture of a set up in front of us of different items in our bag. 
I didnt get mine done in the three hours and i think thats either becuse cross hatching take longer to be effective than shading and also maybe i had too many items. So next time i shall have less items 
But after another couple of hours another  day i got it finished and here was my final peice.
 Our second experiment was gridding we where asked bring a A4 image of something from our world i live in sketch book. I choose one of my scenary photos  from elsecar park because i love painting scenarys but also i though it would look good on a large scale. We then had to measure the grid on to the a4 paper and then double the measuments when i drew the grid onto my stretched A2 paper. I found it quite easy and enjoyed doing it we where then giving our own time to do it and this was my final peice.
 I was really happy with the effect on the water even though it was lines and also the shading on the trees even though it was just different tones of green.
