Print

For the next step of our design for textiles we had to make a print the could be continuous. so first we had to make a perfect  square, where you fold one corner over and then cut off the end. After, I had to draw and item from my visual sheet and put it in the middle of the square. I choose my flammable sign. After we had to add more items from our sheet and make sure then touch and bottom of the paper and then sign so I did I ruler. Next we had to draw a continuous line any way with a fine liner as long as it goes from top to bottom. Then we had to cut next to the black line so white was on one side and black on the other. This was mine.
After we had to turn it over and stick it together with maskin tape. Mine did not work first because my square at the begging was not perfect so one side was longer than the other but I managed to fix it. We then had to take more of the items from our visual board to fill the sheet up. This was my design.
We was then given a fine liner and a thicker pen and we had to make different mark making like dots and lines and also to coulour bits in to make them bold. This was my final continuous print.
I like it because there isn't a lot of black so it doesn't all look couloured in.
These where the instructions we followed on the wall.

Mood board/ visual board (Tuesdays) for textiles with Kat

As part of my primary reasearch I had to take photos on my phone of signs, objects, and equipment that gave us information or had lots of detail. once I had picked my favorite photos from the pictures that the teachers had given us I found items that I thought showed the most information and what I was drawing them I thought about the scale. Some types of the media I used where pencil, pen, oil pastels, acrylic, water colours, and college. I like how I have made the objects quite big so it's clear when adding either shading, writing or colour. Next time if I was to do it again I would make the back ground lighter so my drawing over the top show up more.
After I had done my mood board I stretched another peice of paper and we then had to take the images from the mood board and play with scale and rotation to make a print which will be the design when I do textiles this is how far I have got.
so now I need to start to add coulour. I was very pleased with my finished sheet.

As a little exercise before we started our visual sheet we had to split our paper into 6 squares. And we had to make patterns, from a sheet of textiles pictures and we had different times from the range of 5 seconds to 3 mins to draw these patterns it was to show that you need to take your time to get a good drawing. This was my pattern sheet numer 3 was my favorite.

homework

For my homework I had to do a observation drawing of a kitchen cuboard . Here's the one I chose and my final peice.
I like my final peice because of the way I have done the shading lines makes it look more 3d and to show the inside of the cuboard, I also like how I have done the shading on the cups to show the inside and around the bottom to show the shadows off the cup and also round the side to make the cup look round. If I was to do it again I would try make the items in the racks at the side stand out more so you can tell more what they are, and add more detail off the packaging.

For my homework I had to draw a pile of shoes, but only to draw a basic outline. No shading or mark making, I like how by me just doing the outline it stands out and you can easily tell what it is even though there isn't much detail. I also like how I managed to scale the shoes without some being to small or seem out of place. However if I was to do this again, I would try make the lines with more choice of pressure so the outlines that don't stand out as much when I look are not as bold on the drawing.

For out homework this week we had to do am observational drawing of either a pile of clothes on the floor or a row of them in a wardrobe. I did mine in the wardrobe we could either do it on a4 black or white paper and had to be in coulor this was the picture I took of my wardrobe and the drawing of a close up of part of that wardrobe.
I like my drawing because you can see all the patterns and embellishments on the clothes. I also like the shading, where the clothes all over leaping each other are making the clothes look darker in places.
If i was to do it again I would probebly try overlap more colours and pic more clothes with more pattern and texture and furthermore try it on black paper.

This weeks homework was to draw an A3 observation drawing of  the corner of my bedroom in biro this is the photo and my finished work.
I like my drawing because of how I have used cross hatching for shading. I also like how I have managed to take up most of the paper and in the biro it is quite bold but I have managed to add quite a lot of detail. If I was to do it again I would try make the clothing on the door stronger shading where it is folded and also make the books on the shelf look neater.

Our next peice of homework was based on our next project on a Friday which is portraiture so we have to stretch an a3 peice of paper and look through something metallic which makes the face distorted and then take a photo of it and to be drawn in full shaded pencil This was my final peice.

For my new portrait project and as part of  my homework I had to draw a portrait of my self through something that shows reflection I choose a spoon. This is my final drawing with annotation.

Observational drawing (Fridays)

Today we was practising observational drawing. we had to pick out an object at random and draw it from different directions and use a different drawing techniques, for my first one I drew it diagonally from the front and used a cross hatching techniques for the shading, this was my final work which I then had to annotate. And I decided that if I was to do it again I would make the cross hatching neater but I like how I have done the direction of the lines on her dress to show that it swerves round.
After for my second one I drew the back and used tonal shading and then had to annotate that one too. And for that one If I was to do it again I would try make it look more 3d because the bottom looks flat and the mirror doesn't look right. however I really like how I have drawn the lines on the hat to make it look more rounded and the shading under the hat.

For this week we was focusing on close up and far away drawing with different materials. First we had to stetch our paper and seperate our paper into 9 boxes. Then we had to pick an item of either our own or from the box and in the first box we had to draw the whole object in the second box zoom in a bit on one section, and then in the last box zoom in even more. And for my first row I did a butterfly.

For my first box I decided to use pencil for mark making and I used dots for the glitter and cross hatching for the shading. And then darker shading for the darker colours. I like it because it's effective and I love working with pencil and shading. For my second box I used optical blending, I was happy about it because the coloured pencil blends into each other very well. For my last box I decided to use fine liner with water to show shading and then after it had dried I went over with the fine liner for minor details.

For my second row I decided to draw one of the magnets on my fridge.

For my first box I used coloured pencil and used dots with different colours that I could see in the glitter to show that effect and I also used black pencil for where the shading is. I think I could have made it better by making it more bold and stronger shading. For my second box I used pencil I like this because the shading is much stronger and it look more bold and 3d. For my last box I used paint and then used pencil to show darker shading especially in the hair.

For my third row I drew my Mickey Mouse money box.
For the first box I used couloured pencil I like it because it coulourful and good for the shading. For my second box I used pencil and I like This one the best because it makes it 3d but I would make the shading darker next time. For my last one I used fine liner and water I like how I've made light and dark from just fine liner and water and how effective it looks. But if I was to do it again I try make the drawing more easy to work out because it's quite hard to tell what it is. So I would make some parts more bolder.

This week in observational drawing we had to take some objects either from the box or from are own stuff and draw them together on black paper in coloured pencil. My first items was my Victoria secret bottle, my hand gel, and my nail polish pads. My second one was my comb, my lip balm, and my mirror. And the last one was my coloured pencil tin, my fine loner and my rubber. This was the finished drawings.
I like how I have managed to even out the scale of the items to what they look like in real life. I also like how I have gone back over with a grey, black and white pencil to show light and reflection and also the other colours to make them bright and how clear they show up on black paper.

For this weeks observation over four week where going to be doing different drawing over the top of different materials. So for the first one we had to split out a2 into 4 squares, and we had to college the back ground. I used black paper, news paper and music sheets. We then had to put some objects together so I choose a sharpener and my keys and we had to draw them in coloured pencil. This was my finished first box.
For my second box we had to use drawing inks as the background and then put some items together and draw them with coloured pencil again. I choose a brush and and jewled chain. This was my final drawing
I like it because it I like how have used to different shades for where the light is hitting the object and where the shade is. If I was to do it again I would add another object because there is a lot of space.
My 3rd box was drawing in coloured pencil over the top of thick white paint I decided to draw a blue glass I liked it because I used all different shades of blue to show the light and dark and where you can see through the glass.

My fourth box was brusho inks in the background and then drawing back out with bleach to lift the ink off with a paint brush. I drew from two cotton reels and a paint brush in a pot of water. It was hard to put loads of detail in but you could tell what it was, this was my final peice.

Our last peice of work to do for the observation project was an a3 scraffito work. I first stretched a peice of a3 paper and then got some oil pastels in different bright coulours and couloured in different sections with the different coulours. After we had to get black acrylic and then add washing up liquid to make it thicker and then paint over the oil pastel one dry we had to set up items. I had two cotton reels and I diary and with a compass scratched out the drawing. This was my final scraffito peice.
I liked it because it showed up and you could do all the minor details and scratched away more of the paint for my shaded work.

Techniques in Jewelry

Etching is where you put either acid resistant stickers, pens or paint and then on the paint scratch out a patten like these of mine

After you put tape on the back so the acid doesn't attack all the copper and then put it in acid like these.
After take the stickers off or the paint with   Paint remover, and it leaves the bits whicj where covered more shiny.
Embossing
Embossing is when you aneal (heat up) your copper ect and them cool in cold water which makes it more Malable and then you put it through a roller which something on too for example cotton or sandpaper which u can cut into any shape and then place it on top of the copper and when put through the roller it imprints a patten I did the letter L for my initial like this
After you put it in acid it makes the patten show up more this was mine which didn't work well the first time because the roller wasn't tight enough.

but then I did it with circles and it came out like this and then I added a stain to make it stand out more.

Percing out
Percing out is when you get a peice of copper or brass, and then take a quite simple pattern and trace it onto tracing paper. After spray, spray mount onto the copper and stick the tracing paper to the copper. If the pattern needs to be cut from the middle then make 1 punch hole into the copper which is what I used and the put your piercing saw blade through the hole then rest on the wooded pegs and start cutting out your patten. However my patten didn't need cutting out so I drew my patten which was this

And then I stuck it to my copper and starting sawing this was after 1 lesson
By the next lesson I had finished and smoothed the sides with a rounded files because of the curves in my patten this was my finished sample.
I like the pattern and that even though it's a simple pattern it's still quite fancy. If I was to do it again I would try and make the side more smooth so I wouldn't have to file as much.
Next we learnt how to solder, I had to do three different types of solder one was to join two small peices of copper which I had cut with the guillotine. Then sand paper the sides that where going to be soldered together, and then cut two tiny peices of silver with the tin snips and put them on the edge of the copper and add flux. After I lit the blow torch and melted the solder. This was the sample and I managed to do it the first time.
The second one was to solder a peice of wire to one side of the copper which has been sandpapered. First you cut a peice of wire and curl it with pliers, then add flux to where the end of the copper and wire join and then put your two small peices of silver on the edge and light with the blowtorch.
This was my first attempt and it worked
The solder we had to do was to join a peice of wire stood up on the copper so I had to cut the wire and file it, then add a tiny peice of solder to the copper. After hold the wire with tweezers and the blow torch with the other hand and melt the solder and the wire together so it will stand up this was my attempt which took me 3 times because i didn't let the solder melt enough.
We then had ago at imprinting or Hallmarking into metal with letters which you hit with a Nilon hammer so the metal doesn't get marked.
I took one of the words from my mood board and printed them on the copper the letters weren't completly streight but it was only my first attempt this was my sample.

Fine metal workshop introduction

On our first day of workshops I have been put in fine metal for four weeks. so we had a introduction where our tutor showed us all the equipment and machinery. And she laid out all the smaller equipment where using so we can get an idea of them all and when there ment to be used and what for. Here are a few.

Fine metal

These are my two favorite photos from the fine metal/Jewelry workshop. my first photo is a couple of the files from the cuboard with all the equipment, I like how you wouldn't think it but it's quite coulourful and I think would be good to paint the bits that are plastics to show the smooth look. but for the file it's self I would use the cross hatching effect with pencil because, you can see all the tiny grains. But if I was drawing it I would zoom in even more. I also like the second photo because it looks quite old and you can see all the tiny measurements which would be good to draw to show lots of detail and and intresting peice of work.

Textiles

Here are my 4 favorite photos which I took from the textiles workshop. my first picture of the scissors and the ruler I used for my mood board, I did the ruler in white pencil and the scissors in pencil because I thought it would be the best material to use to show the shine on the metal and the darker parts. The second picture of the buttons I like because they was just put anywhere, so a couple overlap which gives it Abit more Intrest when drawing it. I also like all the patterns on all the different buttons. The third picture is of one of the textile patterns I found on the wall. I love how they decided to cut off from black and white to coulour, it looks really effect and different an could also show different moods. My final picture which is a close up of the sowing machine foot. i love how u can see all the different peices to what you use when sowing, and something that u can't always see when looking at a sowing machine however, it's not a picture I would like to draw but in a way it shows a lot of information.

Ceramics

Here are four of my favourite photos which I took from the ceramics workshop. I love the first one of the weighing scales, because I think it would show lots of detail and information If I was draw just one section of it. I like the second picture of then clay mould because it's had a texture, I felt at it and some bit are risen and bits aren't, and it gave it a more interesting look too but I think it would be a bit boring if I drew it. The third picture of the plate I love I choose that as one of the pictures to zoom into and draw for my mood board I used oil pastel which had the smooth texture just like the coating on the plate. I love the pattern and the colours. The last picture of the dog is really creative because there isn't a lot of detail but streight away u know it's a dog and doesn't really need any more detail. I think it's really cute and i like how they have thought about the directions of moulding the legs to show the way the dog is standing.
